Benue State University is a state-owned in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Its 2006 student enrollment was over 19,000 served by 429 faculty. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs with a catalog of over 50 graduate programs across seven colleges.

Benue State University, Makurdi has been official accredited and/or recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria.

The university was founded in 1992 and served 306 students with 149 faculty. The state government felt that the community needed a conventional university to augment the specialized academic offerings of the University of Agriculture. In 1991, the state government formed a 13-member steering committee to plan for and obtain approval for the university. The university began offering classes for the 1992/1993 school year in four colleges: Arts, Education, Sciences, and Social Science.

Admission Requirements

1. Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 credit passes in relevant subjects which must include English Language and mathematics at GCE O’Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.
2. Candidates with Teachers Grade II (TC II) with passes at credit or merit levels in conjunction with credit passes in relevant subjects at GCE, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents may be considered. No subject may be counted at both TC II and GCE O/Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents.
3. The candidate must make at least 200 pass mark in JAMB to qualify for internal screening by the Benue State University Makurdi
